China is a beautiful country with varied ancient cultures, such as the Spring Festival, eat dumplings stick couplets set off firecrackers and so on, but have you heard of some wired cultures? I can feel how curious you might be right now, come and see with me.

Ghost Money

The front side of the banknotes shows an image of the Jade Emperor,
occasionally accompanied by the signature of the king of hell

Joss paper, also known as “money from the ancestors” or “ghost money,” is an element of Asian tradition, used to honor the ancestors, deities and spirits of the Hereafter.

Keeping a certain resemblance to ordinary circulation bills, spirit money is made of rectangular pieces of thick joss paper, printed with specific characters. Joss paper is made from bamboo fiber, and is usually golden color; however, ghost money bills created from rice paper, thin and multicolored, are common.

Within the Asian culture the ritual use of ghost money is reserved for significant moments such as funerals, important dates for the deceased, and the festivals of Qingming.

At the funeral, mallets of phantom money bills are thrown to accompany the passage of the funeral possession, or left over the deceased’s grave.

On the other hand, on the relevant dates for the deceased and the festivals, the false paper money is presented along with other offerings, but unlike these, it is burned in a small oven or portable clay container.

Our family also burned paper for the decedent. My grandma used silver paper origami sycee, and the family folded them together. Generally, at least three or four hundred pieces should be folded. We piled paper sycee and joss paper into the clay container outside, set them on fire, burned them to ashes, fell to the ground, and drew a small circle around them with white chalk. Do not step into this small circle when walking, for I have heard that this touches the wealth of the deceased and will be punished.

Ghost marriage

Previously, many Chinese apparently believed that the souls of the dead still had the same social needs as the living, even though they resided in the underworld. People in China have been practicing ghost marriages since antiquity. The practice likely originated as a replacement for the ritual of human sacrifices that were prevalent during the Shang dynasty in the second millennium B.C., when living people were sometimes sacrificed and buried alongside the dead in order to serve them in the afterlife.

At the time, many Chinese apparently believed that the souls of the dead still had the same social needs as the living, even though they resided in the underworld. Ideally, the soul of one’s spouse would provide companionship, but not everyone got married before they died. So the family would choose a partner for the deceased and on a blessed day, the two dead people would be married. (The wedding process would be the same as a normal wedding, except the wedding equipment would be made of paper, paper dolls and paper sedan and etc. It is quite creepy for a dead person to get married, so this custom is rare nowadays. But ,because it is so scary, it has become one of the classic materials for Chinese horror games. hope you're not dreaming of creepy red-covered brides tonight~😆😆😆

Gu poison

Have you ever heard of the Legendary Chinese Poison? It was considered a slow-acting poison.  It was said to have no taste, allowing unsuspecting victims to go about their normal lives for as long as 10 days before they started feeling ill. But once the poison has taken effect, it gnaws at you from the inside, causing your heart and abdomen to swell and ache. The method of making Gu poison in China is generally to put a variety of poisonous insects such as snakes and scorpions, lizards and so on into the same object, so that they can eat and kill each other, and the only remaining poisonous insects are called Gu poison.

Miao girl's unique "love poison", also known as love flower poison, it should be practiced with girl’s "heart blood" every day, and use ten years to get a "love poison", this can be used in the food, can also be in the dress, Miao girls will play their "love poison" on their lover.

This poison happens once a month, and it should be heart-wrenching. If you don't take the antidote, most people can't stand the pain and commit suicide during the episode.

It is said that the ancient Miao people were good at using Gu poison. And the most toxic poison is called love poison, in which the thought of his beloved person will eat his heart, let him heartache. The pain doesn't stop until you see the one you love. If a man with love poison had fall in love with a another woman, he would die, and the woman will die too. The "love poison" can only be solved by the woman who plays the poison, but once the "love poison" is solved, the woman can not have a second lover, or she will also explode and die.
