My Unforgettable Summer at
Cambridge University

This summer, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in a two-week summer camp at the prestigious Cambridge University in the United Kingdom.
It was an experience that left a lasting impression on me, filled with enriching coursework, captivating excursions, and memorable friendships.

A Journey of Learning and Growth

The heart of my Cambridge experience lay in the classroom.
Our instructors were not only knowledgeable but also remarkably humorous and patient. While the coursework itself wasn't overly challenging, it demanded that we communicate exclusively in English. Each day, we were required to deliver a presentation, and I found myself frequently engaging in discussions with our teachers. I also try to take part in a debate, that was my best speech, ever, I got a lot of prasie! This immersion in the English language did wonders for my speaking skills, pushing me out of my comfort zone and helping me become a more confident communicator.

Exploring the Charm of London
Cambridge is a town steeped in history and elegance. Our camp was situated within the town, and our teachers took us on captivating tours, including visits to iconic landmarks such as the Mathematical Bridge, the King's College Chapel, and the picturesque college lawns, treated with the same care as students. The architectural beauty of this place truly resembled a masterpiece of art. During our two-day excursion, we explored the awe-inspiring exhibits of the British Museum, where we encountered astonishing artifacts like Egyptian mummies that sent shivers down my spine.

The Chinese exhibits, though, held a unique allure, showcasing intricate pieces I had never encountered before.
My only complaint about the museum was the crowds, which reminded us to be vigilant with our belongings at all times. We also had the privilege of visiting Oxford University, though our exploration was limited to the exterior due to time constraints. Many of my fellow students fell into tourist traps, spending exorbitant amounts on miniature models and dolls, but I managed to keep my expenses to a minimum, spending only £30 on food and a single souvenir.

Meal Experience

Every day, we made our way to the Canteen for our meals. Describing the food here is a mixed bag. On the positive side, potatoes were a staple, served in various delicious forms, from fried chips to potato wedges. I adore potatoes, but even I didn't wish to have them every day. The yogurt and milk were outstanding, and I made sure to have a serving with every meal. On the downside, British cuisine left much to be desired. Their meats and vegetables were often bland, lacking salt, and the vegetables were often overcooked to mush. Beef dishes turned into unappetizing black lumps. However, the desserts were abundant and delightful, as were the fruits. Overall, I'd give the dining experience a score of 7 out of 10.

Friendships Across Borders

One of the most rewarding aspects of this journey was the friendships I forged. In our classes, I had the pleasure of interacting with students from Japan and Hong Kong. Our shared love for anime and similar interests quickly helped us bond. Conversations flowed effortlessly as we showed each other images of our favorite anime characters, asking, "Do you know this one?" with enthusiastic responses like, "Oh, I know, I know!" or "I've heard of it, but haven't watched it yet." Interestingly, during interactions with our Hong Kong classmates, I was surprised to discover that some of them struggled to understand Mandarin, despite it being one of China's official languages. It was a bit comical, but it didn't hinder our enjoyment of each other's company. Every evening, our two national groups, Chinese and Japanese, would come together to play sports or board games during our free time. It was a period of pure happiness, akin to being in a dream, a brief respite from the academic pressures awaiting us upon our return.

In conclusion, my two-week summer camp at Cambridge University was an incredible journey of personal and academic growth. The experience was a blend of academic challenges, cultural exploration, and the forging of international friendships. As I bid farewell to this remarkable place, I carried with me not only a wealth of knowledge but also cherished memories and friendships that would last a lifetime. Though the dreamlike summer had come to an end, it had left an indelible mark on my heart, motivating me to return to my studies with renewed vigor and determination.
